Bright Smiles Bright Future (BSBF) School Programme

The Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Oral Hygiene in schools is designed for children at the primary level between the ages of 6-9 years old.  The programme is sponsored by Colgate Palmolive Ltd and currently reaches over 100,000 students every year.

Launched in 1969 in association with the Ministries of Health and Education, the
Programme has evolved over the years as a very children-friendly programme where the main focus is to improve the oral health and smiles of the future generation of children through an intense and exciting oral awareness programme.

The ongoing oral hygiene programme is an integral part of Colgate’s community
involvement in Jamaica and enhances dental health education during the critical stage of  a child’s  development.

The main vehicle for this oral hygiene programme has been the Colgate’s Mobile
Dental Clinic which travels across the island providing dental health education, treatment and samples of toothpaste, toothbrushes, and oral care literature as a means of equipping them with  the relevant tools to practice good oral hygiene.      Dental examinations and education sessions are provided by the Dental Auxiliaries.

The mobile Clinic is like a moving Dental Office which is thoroughly equipped with
dental chair, sterilization equipment, a television set to play the Oral Care
Videos/DVDs, electric generator and an air conditioning unit and is manned by Dental Auxiliaries who perform the following roles:

Dental Health Education sessions, students are taught how to brush,  proper nutrition and  general health

Dental examinations and treatment on the Mobile Clinic.

Consent forms are provided to parents to approve their children’s examinations

Interactive educational  literature are distributed to the children as well as samples

The Mobile Clinic is also used by Charities, Service Clubs
